Web Sites

Catholic Encyclopedia
Who better than the Catholic Church would know the details and ramifications of Medieval and Renaissance European family matters. The site is easy to search and is packed with detailed historical articles. I suggest the 11 page article on the History of Marriage. Just type in your key word on the home page search bar and off you go.

History 1700s
This site is my new favorite. There is so much to choose from. Although it doesn't deal just with Europe it has some great articles about daily life during the 1700s. It also includes a historical timeline, research tips and History in the News. This is a site you can keep returning to.

Internet Medieval Sourcebook -- Newly Translated Texts
This site boasts the more newly translated texts than "any available published collection of medieval sources." By scrolling down you can find several different translators. Paul Hyams of Cornell University has translated several texts pertaining to medieval family matters (eg. marriage court cases, endowments and more.)

The City Of Women
This fun and comprehensive site on Medieval women's roles, responsibilities and impact on society covers everything from motherhood to female jobs and husband-wife relationships to household duties. There is a wealth of information here. There is also a quiz to test your knowledge on the famous women of European history.
