Dreams & the SubconsciousLesson 4: Common Dream ScenariosObjects and Substances in DreamsObjects and substances often occur in dreams. The following are some of the more common ones. Hands: Hands are the means by which we grasp and work with things. So hands that are emphasized in a dream are pointing to your ability to grasp something or to manipulate something. Wounded hands indicate that your ability to grasp hold of something or to create in the physical world has been damaged. Third Eye: Many people dream of having three eyes. The third eye is the psychic or spiritual eye. So if you dream that you or someone in your dream has a third eye and it is blind, then investigate how your religious or spiritual beliefs are insufficient to help you see the deeper meanings in your life. Teeth: We use our teeth to bite and to chew. Broken teeth may indicate that you are weak in your ability to bite back and defend yourself. Broken or missing teeth show that you are unable to feed yourself. Teeth grind our food into small bits that we can swallow and digest and receive nourishment from. Damaged teeth prevent us from breaking down food and on the psychic level it may be saying we are wounded in our ability to break down information into manageable parts. So our understanding of facets of our lives may be limited to only the concrete or superficial. Strive to dig into the deeper meanings of events and human behavior in the area pointed to by the dream of damaged teeth. Feet: What do feet do? They enable us to walk, to jump, and to run. They are the way we move through life and in the psyche, they are the way we move through the psyche. Also it is through our feet that we touch the earth. So, damaged feet in a dream will point to our lack of grounding, of being down-to-earth in some area of life. Blood: Blood is life force. Some say it is the vehicle of the soul. It carries nutrients through our bodies and removes toxic wastes. If you are bleeding in a dream, ask yourself where in your physical life your life force is being taken from you or is simply draining away. In the Christian sacraments, human beings are called to drink the blood of the Jesus, so drinking blood in a dream can be referring to sacred ritual and imbibing Divine force. Blood is associated with both being born and with dying. So, depending upon the context of the dream, you need to ask yourself either what is being born in your psyche or in what way is the soul being murdered? Body Wastes: Many people dream of needing to urinate and not being able to find a proper place to do so. Others dream of feces where it should not be or even excrement covering a large area. Body wastes are simply that – wastes. They are useless elements that need to be gotten rid of or they turn toxic. So if you dream of feces everywhere, you may be having a huge excess of emotion that needs to be dealt with before it turns toxic to you and to your relationships. If you are unable to get rid of wastes, find what is blocking you from doing that.
