Lesson 5: More Kinds of Writing
In this lesson we will look at two more kinds of writing. They have big names - expository writing and persuasive writing, but they are both kinds of writing we use each day.
Real Writing
Have you ever written a letter, kept a diary, or told someone how to make your favorite chocolate sundae? If so, then you are using "real writing" or what we also call expository writing. This is the kind of writing we do when we need to tell someone something. It isn't fanciful or imaginative - this is down to earth, authentic writing. This kind of writing can include writing essays, letters, reports, news articles, interviews, and content area writing. It is the well organized, logical kind of writing used to give information to the reader. This type of writing can be used to inform, clarify, explain, define, or instruct by giving information, explaining why or how. It can also be used to explain a process, or define a concept.
