Lesson 4: Describing Something
Prompts
Here are some ideas for descriptive writing to get you started. Try it out - description is fun! 1. You look out your window and see a bird you've never seen before. Write a paragraph describing it so that you can look it up in your bird book. 2. Imagine it is a snowy day. Describe what it is like to take a walk outside in the snow. Use all of your senses - what do you see, hear, feel, taste and smell? 3. Pretend you've lost your favorite toy. Write a description of it so that others can help you find it. 4. You want to enter your cat (or dog) in a Prettiest Cat (or Dog) contest, and you need to write a one paragraph description of her. How would you describe your pet to others? 5. Describe how your classroom will look on the first day of school.
