Lesson 3: Writing a Story

Prompts

If you keep a writing journal or notebook, jot down ideas for stories as they come to you. Remember, narratives can be real stories or made-up ones, so be sure to write down both.

Here are some ideas for narratives to help you get started. As you write, think about the characters, the setting and the plot.

1. A day with your grandmother
2. The first day of school
3. One day of your summer vacation
4. Getting ready for a party
5. Your birthday
6. What you do on a snowy day
7. Learning to ride your bike
