Lesson 6: Record Keeping

Homeschooling parents may choose to keep records of their children’s learning activities for personal or legal reasons. This lesson includes sections on measuring learning, meeting legal requirements, record keeping strategies, and preparing for testing and evaluations.

Introduction

Among the reasons for keeping records of your children’s learning experiences are legal requirements, personal recollection, and reference for future college and job applications. Among the numerous ways that records can be kept are journals, portfolios, charts, and forms.

There are strengths and weaknesses to each record keeping strategy, and different purposes for using different methods. Some parents may purchase record keeping systems while others choose to create their own.
