Lesson 4: Home Preparation

Unlike the stressful process of choosing a curriculum, preparing your home for unschooling may be one of the most exciting and enjoyable aspects of this approach to homeschooling. This lesson includes sections on learning supplies, ‘strewing,’ family interaction, and daily activities.

Introduction

Home is where your children likely do many of their learning activities. Preparing it can be a lot of fun for your whole family. You’ll discover the endless possibilities in everyday objects and specially purchased educational supplies. It’s not a houseful of educational materials that makes a learning environment, but access to interesting people and things. As each family is different, and each child is different, each home will be different. You will learn to see your home and the homes of others through newly curious eyes.

Recreating your home need not be expensive. Homeschooling families live within many different budgets and have found a variety of ways to explore their interests with little financial investment.
