Lesson 4: Who is Jesus?

Teaching about Jesus is such a joy! Please be sure that your child has his or her Bible. There will be a Bible Drill during this lesson.

If you would like to take time to show your child how to locate books, chapters, and verses in their Bible, that would be a big help before starting this lesson. Every Bible has a Table of Contents in the front.

Pretend you are at a Birthday party. There are 40 kids invited to this Birthday party. You are sitting at the end of a long table while you sing the "Happy Birthday" song to the child who invited you. Next, the cake starts to be passed out. Before long the good cake runs out and it is all gone! So, the parents bring out a crumbly cake that does not taste so good. You get a piece of that crumbly cake. Would you be happy about that? Probably not! This is much like what happened in Bible times when there was a wedding. The best wine would be used up, and then they would serve cheap wine that did not taste good. This is where Jesus performed his very first miracle on earth! He was invited to a wedding with his mother. The good wine had run out. Jesus turned water into wine, and it wasn't just wine; it was the best wine of all. The people at the wedding were amazed.

Jesus spent his life performing miracles. What is a miracle? It is something that happens that is impossible to explain.

Jesus healed many sick people. As long as the person who was sick believed that Jesus could heal them, he would do it. There is even a time when a lady who had been ill for 12 years could not get in to see Jesus because the crowd around him was so large. It took all she had to just touch the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed." Instantly she was healed. Jesus turned to the lady and told her that her faith had healed her. You can read this story in Matthew 9:20-22.

Can you feed 5,000 people at one time? Do you know anyone who can do this? Jesus did! Jesus was with his disciples teaching a large crowd of people about God. The people started to get hungry. Jesus' disciples said they should send the people away so they can get some food. Jesus told his disciples that would not be necessary. He asked his disciples how much food they had. They had five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus took this bread and fish, and broke it. It turned into enough food to feed 5,000 people, plus there were 12 baskets left over, one for each of his disciples!
