Lesson 2: What is the Bible?

Is the Bible Accurate?

Is the Bible Accurate?

You may ask yourself, "How can the Bible be accurate if so many people wrote it?" That is a very good question. The Bible started out being written on clay tablets. Clay tablets were used to write on before paper was even invented. Later, animal skins called parchment and sheets of papyrus (made from grass-like plants) were used to write the Bible. The parchment and papyrus could be rolled up into scrolls. No matter if clay tables, parchment, or papyrus were used, the Bible had to be written by hand! Each time a Bible was re-written, it had to be done very carefully, so that nothing was left out.

Another way to know that the Bible we read today is just as accurate as the original Bible written by scribes (men whose jobs were to write the Bible), is that archaeologists are always finding artifacts (things made by man) to prove that the Bible is true. An archaeologist is someone who digs to uncover things that happened in the past. Archaeologists are finding ancient cities and towns, old pots and dishes that people in Bible times used, and much more. These things can tell archaeologists who lived in certain parts of the world, what they did for work, how they played, and many other things. Here is a great place to learn more about archaeologists (The Bible and Interpretation)
