Kitchen Safety for Kids © Mary M. Alward
Lesson 4: Fire!!!
Parent Guide
Teach children fire safety rules, so that they will be aware of the danger that the kitchen holds. Do not scare them. They should be instructed on these rules and directed to the closest exits in case of fire. Never expect your children to put out a fire on their own. Never leave your children to cook on their own. Children, stoves and microwaves mix like fire and oil. It is an explosive combination. To prevent tragedy, go over the points in this lesson. Whatever else you do to ensure your child's safety, teach them how to call 911. Be sure they know it is only for emergencies. Practice calling on a disconnected or play phone. Teach them to stay calm and that the dispatcher at the 911 call center is always there to help them.
