Lesson 4: Fire!!!

Fire and Deep Fryers

Kitchen fires are usually caused by grease. Deep fryers heat to a very high temperature. Hot grease or oil can catch fire easily and cause terrible burns. Grease fires are very difficult to put out. Use extreme caution when using a deep fryer.

Rules to Follow:

Always dry food before putting it in hot grease or oil.

Never leave a deep fryer or pot of grease unattended for any reason - not even for one second.

Never move a deep fryer when it is hot. The grease can splash cauging severe burns.

If grease starts to smoke, turn the heat off immediately and let it cool.

If a deep fryer catches fire, never throw water on it. Hot grease and water don't mix. Water causes hot grease to explode.

Always use a deep fryer that has a thermostat. Thermostats prevent deep fryers from overheating. Never, never, never, use a deep fryer unless an adult is present.
