Fire Safety Tips
Each year more than 7,000 people in the United States are injured in kitchen fires. Don't be a statistic. Stay safe in the kitchen by practicing good kitchen and fire safety. General Kitchen Safety Never allow electrical cords to hang over the edge of counters. Never hang tea towels or clothes over the stove, toaster, or other appliance. Keep your oven, grill and deep fryer clean. Built up grease can easily start a fire and is the number one cause of kitchen fires. Keep all electrical cords away from water. Never place anything wet on the stove, dishwasher, microwave or other appliance. Keep the toaster clean and away from curtains, tea towels and oven mitts. Never overload electrical sockets. Never use a tea kettle that is leaking. Never dry clothes in a microwave. Never put anything metal into a microwave. If you are going to be cooking a lot, ask an adult to buy a fire blanket for the kitchen. Never cook in the kitchen alone. Ask an adult to supervise.
