Coping with BullyingLesson 2: Who is a Bully?Another Type of BullyAnother type of bully is one who is nice when the two of you are alone, but acts out when others arrive on the scene. There is no excuse for this, but peer pressure puts a lot of stress on children. Kids always want to be liked by their friends, so they act the way their friends do. They may think it's fun to show off in front of others. Again, it may be their way of getting attention. They may not even realize that they are being a bully. It is up to you to let them know. If your friend is nice to you when you are alone and then acts out when others arrive, walk away. When your friend talks to you alone the next time, tell him that his actions caused you to feel sad and hurt. If he continues to bully after you've explained this, it is time to find a new friend. You don't have to allow yourself to be bullied just to have a friend. Others will respect you more for sticking up for yourself. |
