Coping with Bullying

Lesson 1: Bullying

Why Do Bullies Bully?

Why do Bullies Bully?

Bullies like attention. When someone bullies you, other kids pay attention to the bully. They often go along with the bully because they're afraid if they don't, he will bully them.

Bullies like to be in control. Making you feel sad, depressed or alone makes them feel powerful. Being powerful makes a bully feel good.

Some bullies know exactly what they are doing. They want to feel powerful and do this by hurting your feelings, teasing or tormenting you. Other bullies may not realize what they are doing, or may have personality or other behavior problems that they have trouble controlling. This is particularly evident in children who have Asperger's Syndrome, other anti-social disorders and invisible disabilities.
