Coping with Bullying

Lesson 3: Who is a Victim?

One half of children are bullied at sometime during their elementary school years. Why? In this lesson we will find the answers to that question.

Who is a Potential Target?

Who are the potential targets of bullies?

Bullies choose their targets carefully. They choose someone who they think will not resist their attempts to control them. The reasons vary. Here are some examples:

1. You are in a minority - a girl in a carpentry class, or a boy in a cooking class. You may come from a different country and speak differently than other kids. This is no reason to be bullied. EVERY child is special.

2. You may have a learning disability or disorder.

3. You may be very mature or immature for your age.

4. You may be easily upset.

5. You may not have a lot of friends and be alone often.

6. You may have a physical disability.
