Lesson 2: Fundamentals of a Walking Program

Lesson 2 Self-Study

You may choose to add this information to the walking journal you started in lesson One.

1. Determine whether you fit the criteria of someone who should consult a doctor before beginning an exercise program. If so, schedule your appointment.

2. Put together a schedule for your first week of walking.

Write down and make a verbal commitment to another person:

a. Which days b. What time c. How long

Only commit to what you know you will do. So if that means 5 minutes, commit to 5 minutes. You can still go for a longer time, but it is most important that you follow through on your commitment.

3. Which measurement of intensity do you plan to use? Why?

4. If you are planning to use target heart rate, calculate this number or range.
