How to View your Slide Show
It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for all course long. You want to view your slide show to see how all your hard work turned out. Viewing a slide show can be done in several ways. For beginners, open the “View” menu and select “Slide Show”. The first slide of your presentation should appear across your entire computer screen. A quicker way to view your slide how is to hit the F5 key. Try both ways to determine which way you prefer. Navigating through your slide show:
Once you have your slide show up and running, you need to be aware of how to navigate through the slides. You can advance through the slides manually by pressing the space bar. If you would like to go back and forth between slides, use the left and right arrows (up and down arrows work as well). If at anytime you wish to close your slide show, just hit the ESC key. Using the Mouse during your slide show
When viewing your slide show, your mouse provides a few different options to enhance your viewing experience. Run your slide show. In the bottom left hand corner of the screen you will notice an outline of an arrow button. Left mouse click once on this arrow and you will have the following options:
1.) Next – Goes to the next slide.
2.) Previous – Goes to the previous slide.
3.) Speaker Notes – We’ll talk about this feature in the next section.
4.) Help – Gives you the shortcut keys and help in navigating through the slide show.
5.) End – Closes the slide show.
Go, Meeting Minder, Pointer Options, and Screen are all advanced features, which we will not cover. Basically you can use your mouse, shortcut keys and menus to view and navigate through your slide show. Try viewing your slide show and play around with the different navigation options.
Transitions
We’ve learned how to manually transition between each slide in your slide show. However, let’s say that you created a “promotional” presentation regarding your company’s new product. You would like to have this presentation run automatically during a trade show. In order to do this, you need to set up slide “transitions”. Open the “Slide Show” menu and select “Slide Transition”. First you can determine what type of “effect” you would like the slide to have when it transitions between each slide. The default setting is no transition. Open the dropdown list and select “Blinds Vertical”. It will show you the effect. It is really quite neat. You can also specify the speed of the transition. You then need to specify on what action the slide transition will advance. The default setting is “on mouse click”. Uncheck “on mouse click”. Check “Automatically after” and then specify a time setting. Preview your settings to make sure the slides are transitioning at the appropriate speed. You can also specify a sound for each transition. Lastly, you can apply these transition settings to one slide or all of your slides. Click “Apply” or “Apply to All” and you will return to your Normal view. View your slide show to watch your neat new transition effects!
