Bible: 5 Poetic BooksLesson 2: JOB: You Get What You Deserve! ???Job is Restored!Chapter 42 Sometimes it’s hard to admit that we’re wrong. We get so embroiled in a debate that even if we begin to see the error of our ways, being right and winning the argument becomes more important. Fortunately, Job finally "gets it" when God speaks to him. He humbles himself, and changes his attitude: 42:2 I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. God is pleased with “the old Job” returning. How do we know? With Job "turned in the right direction", God focuses his attention on Eliphaz: 42:7 "I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has." Even though Job lost sight temporarily of what he should have been doing and saying (understandable, due to the pain and suffering he was enduring), once he solves his problems, God uses him to teach the others a lesson. And what is their lesson in humility? They are to have the object of their harsh comments, Job, pray for them. His prayer will save them from God's wrath. Wisely, they do as they are told. And when all is said and done, what’s the result for Job? 42:10-16 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before. All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the LORD had brought upon him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring. The LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. And he also had seven sons and three daughters. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers. After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. A happy ending and a GREAT REWARD at the end for a life of faith (sounds like something even bigger... hmmm). His extended family returns to him and they all sup together. They show sympathy. They restore riches unto him. He receives a DOUBLE blessing compared to what he had before. He has children again, and they too have God’s hand watching over them. Finally, he is given extra years to enjoy it all, after his time of suffering. God ultimately rewards him more than man ever could, for his steadfastness and his faith. That's a quick glance at the book of JOB. Now let's move on to the poetry! Go to section seven!
