Bible: 5 Poetic BooksLesson 2: JOB: You Get What You Deserve! ???Round three: Will it ever stop? The accusations fly!Job has suffered mentally, physically, psychologically, spiritually—now even his friends seek to attack him for “sins” they suspect him of but have no information about—nothing to support their accusations. At this point, Job must be feeling like he has no one to turn to except God. And just when he thought things couldn’t get any worse, the onslaught continues: ELIPHAZ: 22:5 Is not your wickedness great? Are not your sins endless? BILDAD: 25:4 How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure? ZOPHAR: Strangely silent here...was he feeling exasperated or defeated? In a final attempt at defense, Job slides into sin--excessive pride: 29:7 When I went to the gate of the city and took my seat in the public square, the young men saw me and stepped aside... Job is getting nostalgic, talking (boasting) of his younger days when he was very well respected. Because of their constant attack, Job's friends have forced Job to be defensive and to use past accomplishments as a badge of honor instead of dealing with the situation. Good intentions, wrong focus. Job cries out, "Oh that I had someone to hear me!" and what happens? Another young man answers Job. Go to the next lesson to see what is said!
