Opening Outlook and Parts of the Outlook Screen
Let’s begin using Outlook 2000.
To open Outlook 2000:
Click on Start – Programs – Microsoft Outlook
Let’s look at the parts of the Microsoft Outlook screen (see Microsoft Office 2000 for Windows: Visual QuickStart Guide pp. 392-393 or click on the link below):

- Menu bar - click on a menu option to see a list of commands
- Standard toolbar - frequently used menu options
- Advanced toolbar - additional buttons related to the folder
- Inbox messages - shows current email Inbox messages
- Outlook bar - shortcuts to the major areas of Outlook
- Message count bar - shows number of messages in folder (total number and number unread)
- Folder list - list of current folders
- Preview pane - shows first lines of selected message
- Office Assistant - quick help when you need it
Take a few minutes now to become familiar with these features and locate them on Microsoft Outlook as it is displayed on your screen.
