Lesson 5: PowerPoint 2000

Working with Slide Shows

Let’s begin using PowerPoint 2000.

To open PowerPoint 2000:

  • Click on Start – Programs – Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint 2000 prompts you to create a new presentation or open an existing one.

Notice that there are three ways to create a presentation:

  • AutoContent Wizard
  • Design Template
  • Blank Presentation

Let’s first create a Blank presentation

  • Click on Blank Presentation
  • Click on OK

The New Slide window appears and prompts to choose an Auto Layout. The box at the lower right indicates the type of slide currently selected.

  • Click on each slide to see its type

Types of slides include the following: title slide, bulleted list, two-column text, table, text and chart, chart and text, organizational chart, chart, text and clip art, clip art and text, title only, and blank.

To begin our presentation let’s use the Title Slide.

To select the Title Slide:

  • Click on the Title Slide in the New Slide window
  • Click on OK

To enter text in the Title Slide:

  • Click in the Click to add title box and type the title of your presentation
  • Click in the Click to add subtitle box and type the subtitle of your presentation

Notice that the slide number and contents appear in the window at left.

To save your presentation:

  • Click on File – Save or the Save button on the toolbar
  • Notice that PowerPoint lists the title of your slide as the file name for the presentation. You can type in a different title or simply click OK.
