Lesson 1: Word 2000 (Part 1)

Working with Documents

Let’s begin using Word 2000.

To open Word 2000:

Creating, editing, saving and printing documents

To open a blank document:

To enter text in a document:

To save your document:

Editing text
You can modify text by selecting the text you wish to edit and then typing your changes.

To add or delete text:

To move, delete, or modify a section of text such as a word or paragraph, you can select the text you wish to edit by clicking and dragging the mouse, or by clicking on Edit – Select All to select the text of the entire document.

Viewing your document
The View menu option allows you to view your document in Normal, Web Layout, and Print Layout. It can sometimes be difficult to get a sense of how your document actually looks as you work on it. To get a good idea of how your document looks as you type, set the View option to Print Layout and the Zoom option to Page Width.

Formatting text
The best way to learn about formatting text is to practice. Type the following text and press Enter where indicated to force the cursor to the next line.

You are invited [Enter]
to a Housewarming Party[Enter]
[Enter]
Where: 12345 Main Street, Anytown USA [Enter]
When: Saturday February 27, 2004 at 6pm[Enter]

To select the text of the first two lines:

To center this text on the page:

To change this font face from Times New Roman to Arial:

To change this font style to Bold Italic:

To change this font size to 16 point:

To change the line spacing of the entire document from single spacing to 1.5 spacing:

It is extremely important to save your changes often! Every 10 minutes (or less) is a good idea.
