No two W/C paintings are ever the same, this makes a very unique and individual outcome. Each painting will inspire you to experiment further. Beware, Water Colour painting is addictive! " />
Watercolour PaintingLesson 4: TRANQUILLITYFACE PAINTING
Here we have a quick, spontaneous painting with very little detail. The shadows, lights and colour brought the painting to life. The paper was Whatmore’s fine, hot press. Note: Before we begin it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the “Face measurements”. Step 1. Lightly sketch the features; check their placement before applying your colour. Step 2. The background was first washed in with Payne’s Grey; a touch of Yellow and Pink; stopping short of the hair and shoulders. Step 3. Light Red was used for the shadows. This was painted directly on the paper without pre-wetting. NOTE: Make sure the lighter tones are left. If colour runs into that area, wipe back with a sponge. Keep the whites of the eyes free from colour. Step 4. Golden Yellow was painted into the hair and also the clothes. Step 5. Cadmium Red was used for the cheeks, tip of the nose and chin. Flow this colour into the contour of the cheeks. With a fine brush, paint the lips and ear shadows. Step 6. Payne’s Grey was used to accentuate the shadow around the eyes and under the chin. Step 7. With Brown and a fine brush paint the eyelashes, eyebrows and nostrils. Step 8. Blue was used for the eyes, plus a deeper tone for the pupil. Scratch the pinpoint highlight with a blade. Step 9. Cadmium Red was painted into the clothing; while a deeper tone, strengthened the shadows and details of the clothes. Step 10. Shadow was painted into the hair. Let's look at another aspect...... |
