This study is a bit of this and a bit of that. By that I mean transparent washes, plus gouache. Mixing the two techniques gives a three-dimensional look to your painting.
Step 1. Sketch the roses and basket design.
2 Wet the paper (Heavyweight) around and up to this design.
3 Using a No.16 brush, paint the background with a blend of Olive Green, and Yellow Green into the background behind the roses and basket. Pale Blue is also painted into the background and foreground while this application is wet.
4. Wait for this application to dry and then with a No.12 brush paint Scarlet into the deeper part of the roses.
5. Mix White with Scarlet and paint the lighter tones.
6. Wash Yellow over the basket shape...
7. Olive Green is painted into the leaves, and Yellow is introduced while wet.
8. Red Brown can now be painted over the basket. Keep the surface wet as you paint up to the green of the leaves. Also add some Mauve and Red into the wet area at the base of the basket and leaves.
9. With a No.3 brush and definite strokes paint the basket detail and rose stems.
10.Note Do not paint detail into the shadow of the basket.
