Introduction

In this lesson we take up creation again. The several myths relating to the creation of the human race reveal the psyche of an evolving society and we shall examine this in depth. We shall then look at the creation of the demi-Gods and the Demons.

There are three issues that are perhaps not so much in the realm of mythology, but are essential to the understanding of the Hindu society. We shall examine them and see how they are reflected in Hindu mythology. These issues are

  • The Caste System
  • The Doctrine of Karma
  • Idol Worship

We shall continue to use ‘Hindu Myths’ and ‘The Indian Epics Retold’ as a reference and shall refer to relevant material on the Internet.

    Optional Exercises
