Glossary
- Check-Raise – When a player first checks and then later raises in a betting round.
- Early Position – A player’s position in a betting round where the player must act before most of the other players at the table. Early position is usually considered to be the third and fourth seats to the left of the dealer.
- Kicker – The companion card to the high card in your two pocket cards.
- Late Position – A player’s position in a betting round where the player must act after most of the other players. Usually considered to be the two positions to the right of the dealer.
- Middle Position – A player’s position in a betting round somewhere between early and late position. Middle position is usually considered to be the fifth, six, and seventh seats to the left of the dealer.
- Position – An important poker strategy which takes into consideration that in most forms of poker, the player acting last has a distinct advantage. Being the last to act means the player possesses the most information when deciding whether to call, raise, check, or fold.
- Re-Raise – To raise a previous raise by another player.
- Top Pair – When a player pairs one of his pocket cards with the highest of the community cards.
