Mothers & Daughters

Lesson 2: A Young Girl's Journey

In this section the student (daughter) will go on a journey of self-discovery. She will find out who she really is, what she really wants, and identify her dreams and goals.

Hands on Activities

The student will participate in self-discovery exercises. These activities are great self-esteem boosters and enjoyable at the same time.

Finding Your Muse

I loved when people asked me when I was young, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I didn’t even graduate high school yet, experience life, or even had my first kiss; how was I suppose to know what I wanted to do when I grew up?

When I became an adult, I realized that what I wanted to do with my life was something that I always did as a hobby. When I was young I would keep a journal, write children’s stories by rewording children’s books, and tried to write poetry.

Identify Your Creativity

Answer these questions. Take your time and be honest.

What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing that makes you feel good about yourself? Maybe you like to draw, paint, color, write, go horseback riding, surf, sing, write poetry, and cook.

What do you enjoy doing so much that you find yourself absorbed in it all day?

Think about all the things you enjoy doing. Could you see yourself in years to come making money from them? What do you think you need to major in (college) to better yourself in the things you love to do the most?

For example:

You want to be an artist. You would then major in the arts, but what type of artist do you want to be? Consider the possibilities: Own your own art gallery, sell your paintings, work with water colors, chalk, acrylic paints, oil paints, pencil shading, and even the simple crayon. Draw and sketch for the court system, police department, fashion designer, advertising, businesses of all kinds, and you can even become an egg designer. That is right. People make money by drawing on eggs.

The possibilities are endless. We all have dreams and goals. Achieving them can be rewarding and a lot of fun.
