Finding Funding

This section requires a lot of hard work from you, the parents. Go to as many of the following resources as possible and see if any of them will work for you. Don't get frustrated! Keep trying!

http://www/fafsa.ed.gov FAFSA is required by almost every college in the US.

http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/Students/ Goverment sources of information are often dry, but are required reading!

Most students get a Stafford loan through their school with minimal effort.

Everything You Need For College - not in print, but great to buy used.

http://www.fastweb.com Lots of scholarship and grant and competition links. You fill out a profile and they email you with opportunities which match your profile.

http://www.collegeplan.org/cpnow/maze/ma... College Planning offers a newsletter, guide, financial resources and seminars.

http://www.finaid.org/ Calculators, lots of money sources, including military service. Worth a look.

http://www.salliemae.com/plan/freemoney/ You might recognize Sallie Mae as a mortgage lender, but did you know they also handle a lot of the student loans in the USA? They offer a section about financial aid scams which is well worth reading.

http://www.college-scholarships.com/ Lots of links, searches, tips, tricks and useful information.

Suggested at home review:

Check out at least 2 new links listed with this course. Report back to the class.

Find 1 new link related to the college selection process that I haven't included. (There are thousands!)

Have your child sign up for at least 1 online service NOW, such as www.fastweb.com.

Parents sign up for a resource NOW, such as www.upromise.com
