Lesson 8: The Older Foal

Introduction

Your journey of raising and training your pride and joy is truly begun. If you have done a thorough job of imprinting and handling your foal, it will make your future more enjoyable. It is a delight to walk into a pasture and the curious foal approaches to get a good scratching from its owner. How frustrating to chase or wrestle a five or six month old foal into submission because it has been allowed to run wild with its mother with little or no human interaction.

While there is not much formal training actually occurring, the foundation is being laid for all future interactions with the horse. This lesson will cover what things need to be done the first year of the foal’s life. We’ll also address that burning desire to get back in the saddle.
