Lesson 7: Imprinting

Introduction

If you’ve been lucky to be present at the birth of your foal, you’re probably already in the stall with mom and baby. Perhaps you’ve assisted with the birth or nursing, surely you’ve done the umbilical cord. Now is the optimum time to begin a process called imprinting if you choose. This lesson will cover the goals of imprinting, the procedure, and cautions about the method. At the end of the lesson you should be able to make a decision about whether or not you want to imprint your foal, and exactly how much you want to do in that first interaction time.
