Caring for Mares & Foals

Lesson 6: Caring For the Newborn Foal

Introduction

So your foal has finally arrived. There is some sense of relief, but it is tempered with the remaining concern about how it will pass the next 24 hours. While you may be ready to head back to bed, or celebrate; the next twelve to twenty-four hours are critical. You need to remain observant and ready to lend a hand.

In this lesson we will cover the normal behavior of a healthy foal and what your responsibilities are to see it gets off to a good start.
