Caring for Mares & Foals

Lesson 5: Dystocia: Foaling Problems

Introduction

While this is not a cheerful subject, it is one we need to address. Hopefully none of the following problems happen to your mare, but it is best to be forewarned. Perhaps the knowledge of potential problems will help you to make a timely evaluation of the situation and prevent an unfortunate disaster.

By the end of this lesson you should feel confident that you could assess any situation with your foal and know whether you need a vet and what you can do to assist your mare.
