Lesson 8: Multigenerational Travel

Multigenerational travel may include travel with parents, grandparents, or grandchildren. Multigenerational travel can also include an extended family or a multiple nuclear family reunion. Having groups of various ages can greatly complicate travel planning. Not only do you have a number of age groups and their associated issues, but you must also coordinate individual preferences, activity levels, and privacy issues.

Nonetheless, multigenerational travel allows the various generations of loved ones to learn about each other. Grandparents can personalize history for children. Children can help grandparents see things in a new light. Furthermore, important family connections are made.

Transportation

As previously mentioned, often group discounts are available. Also make sure to take advantage of discounts for each age group. Further, be aware of issues for each age group.

Make sure that you position members of your group for needed access. For instance, those with mobility issues should be positioned in areas where they can move about more easily. However, do not place energetic children in places where they will continually need to get past those with mobility issues. Placing them in separate areas might be a better idea.
