Teacher's Net
By Phebe DurandLesson 5: Instructional Design2, Part One
We're going to tackle the actual integration of the Internet into our Project-Based Learning lesson plans. To do this, we'll not only dig into the assessment and creation of Safety Plans, but also discuss Web Quests and learn to really effectively use the Search Engines.
Internet In the Classroom
Worldwide, there are approximately 619 million everyday users of the Internet, and of the places that they go online... 98% of the words in Webster's Dictionary are registered as online domains!
Before we start seriously integrating the Internet into any class work, we need to make sure we understand the basic nature of the 'Net and how to access, assess, and use its tools. When evaluating the source of online works, we need to take into consideration "The 6 Basics of Evaluation": Authenticity, Applicability, Authorship, Bias, Usability, Up to date. This process is something we touched on and worked with in our first week, but in this lesson we will extend the concept to assess specific security risks and develop a "Student Safety Agreement", remembering that Brains are the Best Filters.
Specifically, we're going to tackle the actual integration of the Internet into our Project-Based Learning lesson plans. To do this, we'll not only dig into the assessment and creation of Safety Plans, but also discuss Web Quests and learn to really effectively use the Search Engines.
