Travel Planning
Lesson 1: Travel Planning
Finding Out More
The answers to these Imagination Questions also give starting points for your further information searches. These searches will lead you from a very general idea to very specific usable information. In turn, this information can be used to plan specific portions of your trip. For instance, wonder if you could travel by train across the United States? Basic queries on passenger trains lead to several train companies operating in the US. Further searching leads to information on train tour packages, destinations, train schedules, and prices. You may even find out that the perfect travel tour package exists within your price range.
Again, for this exercise, your imagination and creativity should be in control. Would you like to go to a museum on your business trip to New York? Find out what museums are in New York that you’d be interested in. Wondering if there is anything interesting to do in Coutts while you visit your in-laws? Plan a day trip nearby, maybe the vacation won’t be a complete loss. Wondering if you could drive to Mexico City rather than fly? Maybe you could make the whole trip a driving tour.
Still sound a bit overwhelming? You can’t imagine where you’d even start a search on whale watching tours or ski resorts? Don’t panic! A number of basic search starting points, links, and tips are provided in this course. It is of note that the basic search lists that are provided with this course are not, and can never be, complete. Choices are simply too infinite. Therefore, I encourage students to build on the basic resources provided to suit their own specific needs, wants, and desires. Students are also strongly encouraged to share their questions and discoveries on the course discussion board. This allows us all to share and learn from each other’s unique experiences.
Nonetheless, these resources will point you in the right direction. After a bit of practice, you will confidently search for even the most creative query. You may even start to enjoy the adventure and the fantasy of the whole travel planning process.
