Christian Parenting 101

Lesson 2: What is God's Plan for training a Child?

The Bad

Just like there are good examples of parenting in the Bible, there are also bad examples. For example, Jacob, whom God later named "Israel" and who was the father of the twelve tribes of Israel, indulged one of his children, thus playing favorites (1). The results were disastrous; his oldest son, Reuben, had an affair with his father's concubine (2); Judah led his brothers in a plot to sell their brother Joseph into slavery and then cover up the event (3).

Jacob is the example of a parent who allows his love of and pride in one of his children to the exclusion of his other children, to negatively influence his relationship with all his children, as well as the relationships of the children amongst each other.
