Bible 101

Lesson 8: Why does the Bible end?

What if Jesus really died, but the Disciples stole His body?

In the "theft theory", critics claim that Jesus’ disciples stole the body of the tomb, and then pretendied that their Lord had risen and therefore must be the true Messiah.

It is hard to imagine a group of cowering men who are hiding in a locked room to suddenly stand up and brave the Roman soldiers guarding the grave, yet what is even more inconceivable is the assumption that the apostles could have preached a kingdom of truth and righteousness as the one great effort of their lives, and that for the sake of that kingdom they could have suffered even death, but in their minds they knew a sordid truth: their lives were based on a lie.

It is highly unlikely that Peter, who had already gone back to his old job, would again leave that job to pretend that Jesus was the Christ and then later, in the arena, be martyred for it.

It is evident that the Resurrection is a vital aspect of Christianity: it completed a lost humanity’s road to salvation and redemption; by His death, Jesus freed mankind from sin, and by His resurrection He restored to humanity the most important privileges lost by sin: immortality and a relationship with God. For this reason, there was no further revelation of God by the prophets; what God wanted to accomplish, He did via Jesus Christ.

Congratulations!
