Bible 101Lesson 8: Why does the Bible end? What if the Apostles lied? Many critics charge the apostles with making up the story of Christ’s resurrection for their own gain. Some describe them as vain men who did not want to look bad in front of friends and family. Others thought that there was a monetary gain. And still others think that a lie was concocted simply for the preservation of their egos. While the accusations are made easily enough, it is vital to remember that the adherence to the fledgling faith was not a bed of roses. Instead, it brought with it the punishment of death. It is unthinkable that so many would willingly sacrifice their wives and children to the teeth of the lions in the Roman Coliseum simply to assuage their wounded pride. Further, we see in the book of Acts that the disciples after Christ‘s death were not exactly the brave types. Instead, they were huddled together in a locked room, afraid. Similarly, Jesus death shattered all hopes of the political victory they were hoping for, and some, such as Simon Peter, returned to their old life of. Simon Peter returned to being a fisherman.
