Lesson 6: Basics of the Trot
What the trot feels like
It feels, to most people, pretty bumpy the first time they ride the trot. It feels less bumpy to those who dance, and are used to following a partner. Those people will almost automatically move their bodies in time with the horse, and find it relatively easy to figure out the trot cadence, and avoid being slammed by the saddle. To some new riders, it also feels very fast. It isn’t, though. But it is usually loftier than the walk, with the horse’s back also rising just a little overall as he pushes the hind legs and hindquarters forward.
