Horseback Riding 101

Lesson 4: Beginning to Ride: Walk and Halt

Ask, ask, ask, ask, ask

Most riding instructors are so far from their beginnings that they no longer realize that there was a time they did not know what they know now. They cannot recall what you are going through; they don’t always know what needs to be specifically explained, and maybe more than once. Maybe more than a hundred times. So ask. If you don’t understand something, ask. If you want to know more abut something, ask. If you want to know the reason for something, ask. And if the instructor is not willing to take the time or interest to tell you what you want to know, see the sheep and goats comment, above.
