BIBLIOGRAPHY

For internet sites, please see the links category "History of Soapmaking" in the Resources Section

Books:

Bathroom Stuff by Holman Wang. Published by Sourcebooks Trade in 2001; ISBN 1570717907. This book covers the histories, contemporary facts and cultural oddities that make the bathroom a modern day shrine to human health and happiness.

The Soapmaker's Companion: A Comprehensive Guide With Recipes, Techniques & Know-How Susan Miller Cavitch Published by Storey Books in July 1997; ISBN 0882669656. Excellent section on the chemistry of soapmaking and a small section on the history of soapmaking.

STUDENT PREPARATION

In the next few lessons you will learn about the equipment and ingredients you will need to make soap. Take the time now to review the Resources section. I highly recommend that you purchase at least one of Susan Miller Cavitch's soapmaking books for this course, either the Soapmakers Companion (most recommended) or the The Natural Soapbook. If you want to expand your soapmaking library, I recommed also purchasing Handmade Soap from the Country Living Series or the Handmade Soap Book by Melinda Cross.
