What does voice have to do with effective readings?
Acting Auditions 101Lesson 3: APPLYING THE TWELVE GUIDEPOSTS.Twelve Essential Guideposts. Thus far in this lesson, we have worked to get a grip on a true definition of audition success -- YOUR definition of audition success. This is essential, for how else will you measure your progress as an actor. Certainly not by somebody else's standards! You are important. You are valuable. Your talents have meaning. So you deserve to understand and have the best approach possible to succeeding in auditions. That approach comes from practical knowledge, discipline, and (now a third tool) a true definition of audition success. Now that you've given yourself that true definition of audition success, we can move forward with Michael Shurtleff's Twelve Guideposts. These truly are as the title of his book states: everything an actor needs to know to get the part. And I think they will be fun for you to work through. You now can begin the nitty-gritty audition prep work offered to you by Michael Shurtleff. You will be using this text greatly, not only for this section, but for months, if not years, to periodically remind you of the potent tools Mr. Shurtleff holds out for you. At this point, begin delving into his book. Work methodically through each chapter, for his tools will become your biggest allies in your path as an actor. Please remember to make notes as you work through each chapter. Your notebook log will be an important reference for you to turn to while preparing for every future audition. This website link provides an excellent summary of Mr. Shurtleff’s book: http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/University_Playe... You may want to print out the article at this link and tape it into your notebook (or even carry it around with you. It is excellent). Enjoy working through the Shurtleff book! No skimping! Remember: practical knowledge combined with discipline, combined with an accurate definition of audition success, will reap mighty rewards. |
