Aromatherapy

Lesson 1: The Journey Begins

Student Information and Discussion Topics

Our first lesson is over! I had a lot of fun writing it and trying to imagine all of you sitting in my cyber-class!

If you really want to get good results out of this class, I strongly advice you to read through the lesson sections at least twice, take notes and come back to me with any questions you may have. Remember, aromatherapy is more complex than it seems; so, give yourself time to "digest" it and start slow. Like in every other life endeavor, practice and experience count for a good 50% of the accomplished results.

As for the discussion, I’d like to know how far in your journey through aromatherapy you’ve come.

  • What kind of fragrances do you prefer?
  • Does your "smell" taste differ according to the seasons/ your mood/ your emotional-physical health?
  • Is there any memory linked to specific smells or fragrances?
  • Have any elderly family members ever utilized natural recipes to treat common ailments?
During this course, I want for you to pay particular attention to your environment and to the odors and fragrances that characterize different times of your day. You may quickly realize you are not as neutral to them as you thought you’d be...

This class can certainly get you started on Aromatherapy, but no real knowledge will come without studying this fascinating subject in depth. Books are a wonderful way to learn more; it’s like having an expert by your side willing to give you answers any time you need them. The books quoted under the bibliography section are my basic reference points. They provide priceless information in a very clear and simple way.
I recommend that you purchase one or more of them in addition to the required books for this course (I can never resist a good book, when I see one!). They’ll be good friends for long years to come.
Last but not least, a fragrant tip...I usually put my books in big boxes full of potpourri material and let them sit for a few hours. There’s nothing better than reading a sweetly scented book on Aromatherapy!
