Lesson 8: Current (and Future) Issues in Project Management
Summary
In this lesson we focused on some of the fun issues that are being developed within project management now, and will inform discussion well into the future. Specifically, we looked at: Cross-Cultural Project Issues: learn to value and celebrate cultural diversity in your project world, and you'll be a better project manager (as well as a better person) as a result. Non-I.T. Project Management: exists. I swear. I am living proof of this. Enter the world of project management and you'll see this for yourself; it is as applicable to redecorating your home, to planting a garden, to building Fantasy Island (smiles everyone, smiles). Quality Issues: get cozy with these issues, because they dominate a great deal of dialogue within the field. Develop a strong understanding of quality, and emphasize it in your project work: both in word, and in deed. Of course, these three issues are but a small sample of the fun discussions that you'll participate in throughout your career. But these happen to be my three current favourites. Yes, I do get out a lot (but they keep bringing me back).
Questions for Consideration: 1. Do you have any experience in cross-cultural project management? Or just cross-cultural work in general? Please share those experiences with us, including some of the good/bad things that resulted. 2. What other provocative and topical issues in project management do you currently engage in? Or what issues do you think will be a big part of project management development in the future?
