Lesson 4: Project Management Methodologies
Summary
In this lesson, we've introduced the concept of project management methodology with the help of James P. Lewis and the Project Management Institute. We discovered that a methodology is a linear, logical approach to managing a project. We scanned James P. Lewis' Lewis Method to illustrate what a methodology can look like. We also glanced at the PMBOK and suggested that it in itself does not represent a methodology per se, but rather covered the fundamental building blocks that could comprise a complete methodology.
Questions for Consideration:1. Lewis suggests that many projects do not spend the required amount of time and energy in the idea step. Why do you think this happens? 2. Do you believe that project management should rely on a single methdology and adapt it as necessary, or invite a variety of methodologies and have Project Managers use them as needed? Why do you think this?
