Lesson 7: Developing Yourself as a Project Manager
Summary
In this lesson, we've taken a step back from the concepts and methodologies, and looked at some of the different ways that you can develop yourself as a Project Manager. These include: - People skills: project's are about people who do things, not about things that require people. Remember this fact alone and I bet you'll be more successful than about 95% of Project Managers today.
- Technical skills: project management is rich with technical specialities, just waiting for you to apply your technically-minded brain towards (if that's your thing).
- Lifelong learning: never stop learning! Take courses, read books, discuss issues at Suite101.com and elsewhere.
Questions for Consideration:1. Reflect on my preachiness when I wrote: project's are about people who do things, not about things that require people. Do you agree with this? Why or why not? What experiences do you have (project-related or otherwise) where this was not the case? 2. Can you think of other avenues of development that can contribute to project management success? Please share them with us!
