Summary
We've covered yet another massive amount of territory, and we should all feel pretty good about the fact that we now know the following very important things: Project milestones represent key events in the life of a project. They do not represent an activity, or require any resources. They are symbolic, and need to be accepted by your stakeholders. Deliverables are the tangible, objective outputs that your project creates as it moves towards achieving its goal. Stakeholders are people, groups, organizations, and other entities that have a vested interest in the outcome of your project. Manging the expectations of these stakeholders is a critically important job of the project politician-- I mean, manager. Baselines are snapshots of budgets or schedules which help you determine if you're on track, or if a deviation has occured. Projectized organizations are structured to route authority, responsibility, and resources to Project Manager's and project-staff.
Questions for Consideration: 1. What kind of organizational structure do you work within? How does it impact project-related business? 2. What do you think some of the negative aspects of working in a projectized organization might be?
