Lesson 4: Perfect Pasta!

Perfect Pasta Stone Soup

Mise en Place

A large skillet
2 large pots
1 sharp knife
A large stirring spoon
A spatula
1 pound ground beef
1 large onion
2 cloves garlic
1 large green pepper
4 small or 2 large cans of chopped tomatoes
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon dried basil
One box of pasta in the shape of your choice

With your parent standing by to help, use the knife to chop up the large onion.
Chop up the garlic. You want to chop up the garlic as teeny tiny as you can.
Chop up the green pepper.
Put the beef in a skillet and cook it until it is brown ALL the way through. You can help it along, by chopping it up into little bits with a spatula.
When the beef is finished cooking have your parent help you drain the fat from the beef.
Put the beef into one of the big pots.
Now put the onions in the skillet and cook them until they are clear (you can see through them), then put in the garlic and peppers.
Cook the mixture until the peppers are a little soft.
Now add the onions, peppers, and garlic to the beef.
Open the can of olives and drain them. Add them to the beef mixture. Add the rest of the ingredients to the beef mixture.
Stir until well blended.
Let the mixture simmer softly while you cook the pasta.
Fill the other pot with water and bring it to a boil. Pour in the pasta and let it boil as long as the box tells you to.
When the pasta is finished, drain it. Put the sauce over the pasta and YUM!
