Lesson 5: Putting Paint to FabricOptional ProjectNot everyone will have Fiber Etch around, so you may not be able to do a Devore project. But all of you should have an old piece of clothing around that could use some sprucing up. My first fabric painting project used the shirt I usually put on when I paint, because it was already covered with paint spatters. If you haven't got a piece you want to risk, try an old T-shirt, or even a rag. But take that fabric, choose your paints, and do a stencil, incorporating some shading. As with any new stenciling medium it's best to practice on scrap at first - even if that scrap is something you wear. You need to get the feel for the paint and how it flows, and for the differences between shading on fabric and hard surfaces. Make sure the edges of your stencil are well secured so you don't end up going out of the lines. When you are satisfied with your efforts, you are ready to begin on something you would wear in public or place in your living room.
