Optional Projects
Project #1:
Materials: - Paint,
- poster board
- a simple, single overlay stencil
- 3 applicators of your choice
Take any stencil and do it three times. Choose a simple, single overlay one, as this is just to illustrate different effects. Use a traditional stencil brush to do it first. Now do the next two each using a different applicator tool, whether a sea sponge, a cosmetic sponge, a crumpled rag. Use whatever you have handy, Look at the differences among the stencils. Can you see how some might be more useful in creating different effects than others? Do any feel more instinctively right to you than others? You may have found your basic stenciling signature tool - like me and my sea sponge. Project #2
Materials: - poster board
- paint
- alternative stencil materials of your choice
Take your posterboard and your imagination and create a stencil picture without using traditional stencils. You may use materials suggested already in this lesson, or look around the house to find other objects that can stand in for regular stencils. Obviously the material you use will determine the medium you stencil with. Create a picture using these, and note what material you chose, what paint or medium you used, and what techniques you used to create your picture. Why did you make these choices? How well did they work? Would you choose differently next time?
